Things Learned, Thought, and Experienced

Originally Written on July 5, 2011

~ Don’t believe anyone who says there is internet until you are actually able to get on.

~ Apparently the French don’t believe in a) ethernet cords [they’re “forbidden” on campus] or b) having wi-fi for an entire building

~French food is awesome, and croque monsieurs are even more awesome

~ Some things are really really cheap, like shoes, other things are ridiculously expensive, like nailpolish. Chezz is cheap.

~I am so glad that I packed my waterbottle

~At the train station sometimes the men’s bathroom looks exactly like the woman’s so be careful which one you walk into

~I saw a French man wearing a red beret. No joke.

~Bring small bills to dinner, otherwise you’re faced with the uncomfortable situation of trying to use a 20euro note to pay for your portion of the combined bill

~Its so cliche but its so true: French women are tres chic

~There are people in my class that have never heard of Justin Bieber (which is good), David Beckham (which is sad), or Mickey Mouse (which is puzzling).

~Apparently the French are very very strict about open container laws. Which means no picnics with wine :(

~Check back with me in two months, but I think the French people are quite nice and helpful.

~I miss home more than I thought I would.

~The cafeteria a) has much better food than anything at OSU [steak! real fish! wine!] and b) is using some kind of pseudo weight watchers system

~The cafeteria also had spaghetti listed as a vegetable today. These are my kind of people.

~For some reason, French kids are so much cuter than American ones. Maybe its the accent? In any case, we spotted two three year olds doing the “bise” when they met up with each other at the train station.

~HARRY POTTER IS NOT SHOWN IN ENGLISH ANYWHERE IN FRANCE. so we’ve been told. but since many things that we’ve been told have turned out to be wrong, I’m still holding out hope. I will find it, some way, some how.
